Sanabria's lake is surrounded by beautiful villages. These are some of them:

Trefacio: this is where I stayed, at El Rincón de Trefacio. The village only has 186 inhabitants.

San Martín de Castañeda, located 200 m above the lake has a great example of late Romanesque architecture, the Monastery of San Martín de Castañeda.

El lago de Sanabria está rodeado de preciosos pueblos. Estos son algunos:

Trefacio: dónde me alojé, concretamente en El Rincón de Trefacio. El pueblo tiene solo 186 habitantes.

San Martín de Castañeda, a 200 metros por encima del nivel del lago, cuenta con un bonito ejemplo del románico tardío, el Monasterio de San Martín de Castañeda.

Place of the month: Sanabria's Lake, Spain

The largest glacial lake  in Spain - at 318,7 Ha and 53 m2 maximun depth- Sanabria is a gorgeous lake surrounded by a beautiful landscape, a great place to escape for some days. If in summer and if you don't mind cold water, you can swim, but you can also kayak, enjoy the great cuisine in the area and visit the most beautiful tiny villages that have stood the test of time.

Sanabria es el mayor lago de origen glaciar de España ( con 318,7 Ha y una profundidad máxima de 53 m2), un precioso lugar rodeado de un espectacular paisaje, en definitiva, un lugar al que escaparse unos días. Si es verano y no te importa el agua fría puedes bañarte, pero también remar un ratito en canoa, disfrutar de la estupenda gastronomía de la zona y ver los encantadores pueblecitos que han aguantado el paso del tiempo.

 Sanabria's lake is actually part of a Natural Park with the same name, Parque Natural del Lago de Sanabria, located in Zamora, northwest Spain, near Portugal.

El lago forma parte del Parque Natural del Lago de Sanabria, en Zamora, en el noroeste de España, cerca de Portugal.

Beautiful temples: Zamora's Cathedral, Spain

The Romanesque style Cathedral of Zamora, from the 12th century. Specially curious is the dome.

La Catedral de Zamora, románica, del siglo XII. Especialmente curioso es el cimborrio.
